Italian version

Some time ago I listened to a song by Brunori Sas, who these days is featured in the Sanremo 2025 festival.
The song is entitled “Il mondo si divide” and it struck me because of the depth and importance of the message it conveys. I quote the final part of the lyrics

There is only one universe
That unites the sky and the sea
And I only want to breathe tonight

Dividing things
Is a game of the mind
The world divides uselessly

These verses made me think. From childhood we absorb a division-oriented mindset. If we play sports, we compete against others and not with others, and we often wear a uniform that differentiates us.
If we approach sports as fans, we are likely to develop a sense of rivalry, sometimes hostility, toward fans of other teams.
This divisive attitude inevitably consolidates in adulthood. Political beliefs and religious choices inevitably lead us to feel different and separate from to others. There is also no shortage of divisions based on differences regarding our origins, the color of our skin, our place of birth, sexual orientation
These divisions create an atmosphere of conflict, which is the basis on which the wars that have always characterized human history. I would be inclined to say that we are educated from an early age to think of ourselves as divided not only from others, but also from the wonderful universe of of which we are a part.
In the post Let us enlighten commonalities my friend Paolo’s experience testifies to how our instinctive tendency toward division can be controlled by the wise search for what unites us.
In my opinion, the wisdom of Brunori Sas’s words translates into a message of high spiritual value.
